About Skateboarding Day:  Insert from GoSkateBoardingDay.org.    Each year on June 21st, skaters around the world celebrate the pure exhilaration, creativity, and spirit of our beloved sport by blowing off all our responsibilities and chores in order to go skateboarding. It’s called Go Skateboarding Day, and it’s the best day of the year.

On this holy day, skaters will show their love and support for skateboarding by holding fundraisers, contests, protests and demos. They’ll skate across cities, gather in skate parks, stream into local skate shops, and make pilgrimages to their favorite skate spots, all while taking part in the grind heard ‘round the world.

Go Skateboarding Day originated as the day for skateboarders to have fun, to raise awareness about the issues we face; to show the world what skateboarding is really all about; to reclaim our culture; and to define skateboarding as the rebellious, creative celebration of independence it continues to be.

Additional things to do on Go Skateboarding Day in Venice!

1.  Skate or watch the action at the Venice Skate Park!   The Venice’s skate park is on the beach and it rules!  This 16,000 sq. foot skatepark is one of the only in the world located on a beach. It features two bowls, a snake run and a street section with steps, rails and platforms. The design for the 3.5 million dollar park came “from local skaters and skating professionals” touts L.A. 2.  Cruise the bike path!  The bike path that runs along the sand in Venice is 17 miles long and extends from Palos Verdes through Pacific Palisades, with a brief in-land detour. Its smooth concrete surface is great for bicycles, roller skates and skateboards alike.  However, pedestrians are not allowed, so, if you want to walk then you should do it on sand. There is no better way to take in the scenery of the area beaches than a casual ride up and down the coast.   View bike path details here!
