Teachers are nominated and selected by their peers for excellence and recognized at an awards dinner, where they are introduced by their Principal or a fellow teacher and presented with a plaque and a gift bag with donations from local sponsoring businesses. Its primary goal is to foster a high-quality education and dynamic learning environments for the children of Venice, thereby helping to fulfill Abbot Kinney’s original vision for Venice as a Mecca for culture, the arts, and education. The committee’s secondary goal is to encourage local children of all backgrounds and socio-economic levels to be educated together. In June 2011, the Venice Chamber established the inaugural WaVe Awards honoring local teachers, selected by their peers, who creatively engage their students and contribute to the vitality of our community.
