Free day of fun at the beach, headlined by Rock and Roll Hall-of-Famer Greg Douglass of the Steve Miller Band, and many more local and international musicians, dancers, and artists!

VENICE, CALIFORNIA –The annual Venice Spring Fling music and arts festival celebrates its sixth year of totally free entertainment at the beach on Saturday, May 21, 2016, from 11:00 A.M. to 7:30 P.M. in Windward Plaza Park (1 Windward Avenue, between the boardwalk and the bike trail). The full day of art, music, dance, and literature features top-tier local and international talent, and is headlined by THE GREG DOUGLASS BAND. In 2015, guitarist Douglass was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for his tenure in The Steve Miller Band; Douglass co-wrote and played guitar on the smash hit, “Jungle Love.” He has also toured with Van Morrison, Hot Tuna, Peter Rowan, Eddie Money, Tom Fogerty, and Big Brother and the Holding Company.

The full day of musical talent includes Meet Me At The Pub, Rawhide, The Signal, Mother Jones, RedEye Redemption, and Slim Zwerling and The Yums. Also included on the Ocean Stage are a literary reading by poet Mark Lipman, and multiple sets of dance performances by Ya Harissa Bellydance Theater. Drum and dance ensembles Samba Da Mudança (Samba for Change) and Swing Brazil will perform a special set starting at 11 A.M.

VENICE SPRING FLING

Venice Spring Fling 6 is proud to host an art show that is free for select independent artists. This year’s lineup of visual artists includes David Hinnebusch, ART BY SKY, Brian Mylius, Pedro Cortes, Jr., Barbara Lavery, Joel Harris, Ra Ra SuperStar, and Christopher Ossorio.

Eclectic Hoops will be on site for play and sale, as well as an interactive community group art creation. Author Michael Klassen will be signing copies of his book, Hippie, Inc. Joel Harris and Mark Lipman will be signing their books as well (see details in artist bios below). The Venice Electric Light Parade, a group of bicycle enthusiasts who promote safe cycling at night through an artistic display of LED lights will ride away from the site at sundown to end the festival at 7:30 PM. Jami Cassady, daughter of Beat luminary Neal Cassady, will be hosting the Counter Culture Merchandise booth with memorabilia, pictures, and books celebrating the rich history of the Beat and the Sixties generations.
