The Main Street Business Improvement Association is partnering with Heal the Bay and with the Santa Monica Buy Local Campaign for this event. Plans are underway for a Taste of Main fundraiser for the SOULstice and Heal the Bay, and various businesses are making plans for special activities or special sales that will help raise funds. Info will be posted here and tweeted and FB’d. As for the event itself, we are making plans to have live music where we usually do (Pier Ave., Kinney, the OneWest Bank lot, Edgemar Courtyard, and the Elias lot just north of Rawvolution at Main & Strand. We are also making plans to increase the number of music sites. Ultimately, all of that will be posted here and will be available in the Event Program, produced by the Santa Monica Daily Press. For those of you who are veterans of the SOULstice, we are also discussing bringing back the Scavenger Hunt, which was a feature of the event for at least six years. And if you wonder why this fundraising effort is occurring, in part it’s because the Main Street Business Improvement Association, as part of the Santa Monica community, has been planning for awhile to partner with an important charity and help raise funds, and in part it’s because of the increasing costs of putting on this event, to maintain the quality and meet the expectations of those who attend. Historically, the annual SOULstice is funded by the MSBIA, by sponsors on Main Street (like Edgemar, Enterprise Fish Co., Areal, 220 Fitness, Rawvolution and others), by additional sponsorships, and by grants from the City of Santa Monica to help cover city costs.
