Here is what Paddle Tennis Champion Scotty Freedman has to say about the sport.

Scotty Freedman has played Paddle Tennis for over 40 years, and has  won the most championships in Paddle Tennis sport’s history.  191 in all, too many to list.

What do I love about paddle tennis:  I love the fact that people of all different skill levels and abilities and levels of play can think and understand the game of Paddle Tennis at their respective levels of play exactly like i think and do the game, playing the game  at the games top level like i do is entirely different.  Venice beach paddle tennis courts are an eclectic mix of people from all different backgrounds, be it unemployed and hanging at the beach everyday or the richest of the rich in Los Angeles, they all have “ONE COMMON GOAL” they love the game of paddle tennis.

Enjoy a serene walk along the Venice Canals.

Many of the streets in Venice were once canals.  What is left is just a fraction of once abundant waterways, which were laid out by the City’s founder Abbot Kinney to be a miniature version of Venice, Italy.

  1. Stroll the canals with your loved one(s)
  2. Take a brisk walk or jog along the canals.
  3. Take a picture on the bridge with the canals in the background.  Don’t forget to hash tag #VeniceBeachFun

Insert from Wikipedia!

“The Venice Canal Historic District is a district in the Venice section of Los Angeles, California. The district is noteworthy for its man-made canals built in 1905 by developer Abbot Kinney as part of his Venice of America plan. Kinney sought to recreate the appearance and feel of Venice, Italy, inSouthern California. The canals are roughly bounded by Eastern Court on the east, Court A on the south, Strongs Drive on the west, and Court E on the north. There are four east-west canals (Carroll Canal, Linnie Canal, Howland Canal, and Sherman Canal) and two north-south canals (Eastern Canal and Grand Canal). The beautifully lit canals with gondoliers and arched bridges drew widespread publicity and helped sell lots in the development. However, as the automobile gained in popularity, the canals were viewed by many as outdated, and the bulk of the canals were filled in 1929 to create roads. By 1940, the remaining canals had fallen into disrepair, and the sidewalks were condemned by the city. The canal district remained in poor condition for more than 40 years, as numerous proposals to renovate the canals failed due to lack of funding, environmental concerns, and disputes as to who should bear the financial responsibility. The canals were finally renovated in 1992, with the canals being drained and new sidewalks and walls being built. The canals re-opened in 1993 and have become a desirable and expensive residential section of the city. ”

Venice Arts.  Founded in 1993, Venice Arts is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to ignite, expand, and transform the lives of Los Angeles’ low-income youth through photography and film education, and to use its participatory storytelling practices to amplify the voices of underrepresented communities around the world.  www.venicearts.org

A Window Between Worlds:  A Window Between Worlds (AWBW) was founded in 1991 with one intention — to use art in a way that would make a difference. It all started when Los Angeles artist Cathy Salser facilitated art workshops for residents and staff for a variety of domestic violence shelters on a national tour. What she found that summer, and what continues to inspire the work of AWBW today, is that even one art workshop can change a life forever.  awbw.org

The Other Venice Film Festival (OVFF) proudly returns, better than ever, for its 14th season this October 6th to 8th.   The OVFF is a nonprofit community event dedicated to screening full- length, short and animated films that embody the spirit, energy and diversity of Venice, California.  From our humble beginnings in 2004.  International film makers descended on Venice for three days of film screenings, premieres, sell out crowds, spirited Q&A sessions, panel discussions, local art on display and parties with live music and DJs. br/br We are certain we have the best selection of films yet. We will also be recognizing City Dignitaries with an Abbot Award for Community Service.  Some of the local film maker’s & artist’s who have participated in the festival:  include Roger Corman, Catherine Hardwicke, Werner Herzog, Tony Alva, Orson Bean, Tony Bill, Paul Chowder, Camryn Manheim, Gary Marcus, Stanley Mitchell, Chris Mulkey, Zak Penn, Stacey Peralta, Michael Pressman, Danny Trejo, and Sean Welch, among many others.

Venice, CA has always been an epicenter for LA artists and filmmakers who continue to pave the way toward expanding the language of underground, alternative cinema. The Other Venice Film Festival bridges the community of Venice and that of greater Los Angeles together in a competitive, fun-filled weekend of movies and mayhem.

.

The Abbot Awards are given to filmmakers who exemplify maverick filmmaking, by creating stunning and poignant cinema. These films, often hilarious or tragically absurd, are made without the benefits of large budgets and technological wizardry. These filmmakers share the spirit and artistic energy of Venice’s founding father Abbot Kinney. In honoring these filmmakers who adhere to their singular vision, we honor our Venetian benefactor, Abbot Kinney.

All films that screen at the festival, with the exception of Spotlight Screenings, are in competition for an Abbot. Short films as well as features qualify for Audience Choice and Most Excellent Abbot Awards. The Local Maverick Spotlight Abbot Award is given to a local established filmmaker who creates unforgettable celluloid and kick ass flicks.

Venice Vintage Motorcycle Club – VVMC  to host 10th Annual Rally and Ms. Venice Vintage Pin Up Contest on Sept. 16th, 2017.   Event includes:  Vintage bikes, live music, a beer garden, BBQ,  pinup contest, charity raffle, and more!

..

About the VVMC:  The Venice Vintage Motorcycle Club is dedicated to the preservation and celebration of vintage motorcycles and of motorcycle culture. They honor the craftsmanship and inherent beauty found in the design of all vintage motorbikes as something potent, influential and representative of a time lost to history, where things were built with pride and made to last.

The VVMC is a band of brothers and sisters compromised of more than 20 individuals faithful to and united by the love of riding and maintaining old motorcycles. Old bikes brought them together and they ride them like their maker intended. Sometimes a little faster than that.

With their roots in Southern California, they are committed to supporting their community in Venice and maintaining inclusion towards others upon the alter of the old machine.  Come out and ride with them!
